Cascade Writers would love to have you on our team.  We’re looking for someone to fill the following positions: Workshop Vice-Chair; Hotel Liaison; Fundraising/Promotion Chair; Outreach Chair—and committee members for these subcommittees.

Meet Nisi Shawl!

Meet author Nisi Shawl at this year's Cascade Writers workshop.  Here's a little about her:

Nisi Shawl published seven new short stories in 2011 and was WisCon 35’s Guest of Honor. Her story collection Filter House won the James Tiptree, Jr. Award and was nominated for the World Fantasy Award. Shawl is coauthor of Writing the Other: A Practical Approach, co-editor of the forthcoming Strange Matings: Octavia E. Butler, Feminism, Science Fiction, and African American Voices, and she edits reviews for The Cascadia Subduction Zone, a literary quarterly from Aqueduct Press. She is a founding member of the Carl Brandon Society and serves on Clarion West’s Board of Directors. She’s fairly active on Twitter and Facebook, and she promises to update her homepage (www.nisishawl.com) soon.

Registration is still open for the July 25-28, 2013 Cascade Writers workshop. We've added author Ken Scholes and editors Jaym Gates and Jennifer Brozek to our lineup of great speakers for the 3+ day event. We have two registration options: 1) for $125 you can attend all classes or 2) for $245 you can attend all classes, participate in Milford-style critique groups and pitch to agent Cameron McClure of the Donald Maass Agency. Attend the Cascade Writers workshop this summer and meet Tor editor Claire Eddy -- see www.CascadeWriters.com for more information.  Here's a brief bio of CLAIRE EDDY:
Claire Eddy is a Senior Editor at Tor Forge Books and has been with the company for close to thirty years. Starting in the science fiction and fantasy field, she has worked with Jacqueline Carey, Juliet Marillier, Jane Yolen, and Jack Vance; as well as newcomers Beth Bernobich and Ian Tregillis. In addition, she also does projects in the historical, thriller and mystery fields, working with Carole Nelson Douglas, Sharan Newman, and newcomers such as Tony Hays.

Just wanted to give a shout out to Angela Korra'ti and the reprint of her first book, Faerie Blood.  I got a chance to get a copy signed at Norwescon this weekend -- and from reading the first page, I can already tell I'm going to love this book!

The Cascade Writers workshop is July 25-28 this year in Portland, OR.



For over a decade, Cascade Writers has helped writers of all levels hone their craft. Each summer, Cascade Writers offers a 4-day workshop with programming featuring editors, agents, and professionals on topics ranging from manuscript basics to GLBT concerns in literature. The workshop also includes intensive Milford-style critique sessions with peers and professionals and agent pitches. Writers in the Seattle area can also take advantage of the Cascade Writers  ongoing critique groups. Meeting in various locations around the area, these critique groups offer writers the chance to improve their manuscripts and their editing and critique skills year round. Cascade Writers has two scholarships available for 2013:
The Cascade Writers Jay Lake Scholarship
This scholarship for a full registration of $245 is funded by Jorgen and Karen Junker and is based on need.  Applicants are asked to submit a brief statement of need and a 1000-word writing sample to info@cascadewriters.com  Please put "Jay Lake Scholarship" in the subject line of your email.  Deadline to apply is May 15.  The recipient will be decided by a panel of judges made up of Cascade Writers board members.
The Cascade Writers General Scholarship
This scholarship for a full registration of $245 is funded by an anonymous donor and is based on need and writing ability.  Applicants are asked to submit brief statement of need and a 1000-word writing sample to info@cascadewriters.com  Please put "General Scholarship" in the subject line of your email.  Deadline to apply is May 15.  The recipient will be decided by a panel of judges made up of Cascade Writers board members and the donor.
